Interactive Flat Panel Display– What is a Flat Panel Display?

An Interactive flat panel display is a fragile screen of a computer, tablet, mobile phone, or TV. It is also called FPD. It was first invented in 1964.

In other words, “flat panel display is a display technology in which thin panels are used.” Earlier devices used CRT (cathode ray tube).

The flat panel display that is it uses LCD (liquid crystal display) and LED (light emitting diode) screens, due to which it is very light and thin.

Due to being light and thin, these screens are very portable and we can easily take them anywhere. And the resolution of these screens is also very high. The earlier TVs and monitors had the use of CRT, due to which they were not so portable.

Because the infrastructure of flat panel displays is very simple and small, it helps in making the light and portable of the screen.  And these screens are used a lot for personal and business use.

Examples of this:- a TV monitor, calculator, pocket video games, laptop computer, advertisement board in the elevator, etc.

These are of two types which are as follows:-

 1:- Emissive Display

These are devices that convert electrical energy into light.

Example:- Plasma panel, LED, thin film electroluminescent.

2:- Non-Emissive Display

These are devices that use optical effects to convert sunlight or light coming from other sources into graphics patterns.

Plasma panel display

Plasma panels are also called gas-discharge displays. It is used in very large TV displays, about 30 inches and above. This display is brighter than LCD.

It uses ionized gases to create luminance.

Its main components are as follows:-

Cathode – It has fine wires. It gives negative voltage to the gas cells.

Anode: – It also has fine wires. It gives positive voltage.

Fluorescent cells – These contain small pockets of gas liquids. And when voltage is given to this liquid, it emits light.

Glass Plates:- These plates act like capacitors. When voltage is applied, the cells glow continuously.

What is LCD, it provides a digital image of high quality.
Flat panel monitors are very stylish and their design saves space.
Less power is used in these devices and it gives maximum image size on minimum space.

• Their service life is also less.
• Their contrast is not good.
